With billions of people around the world using our platforms to discover and share content, we focus on ensuring we're creating a safe space where privacy and security are top priorities. We are committed to complying with the relevant data protection laws and regulations, such as the GDPR in the EU, and aim to ensure that users' data is collected, stored and processed in a lawful and secure manner. We continue to invest in programs that will help ensure protection of user data. These protocols include data access controls, external third party oversight, and privacy-enhancing software and technologies, and they are reflected across our product suite.

Corporate Social Responsibility

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team manages ByteDance's community, environmental, and tech-for-good programs, working with nonprofits, employees, and our own tools and platforms to turn corporate commitments into real-world outcomes. This includes our commitment made back in 2023 to become a carbon neutral business across our operations by 2030.

As part of this commitment, we pledged to reduce our operational carbon emissions by 90% by 2030 from our 2021 baseline, with the remaining emissions balanced through high-quality carbon offsets. Our global data centers play a critical role in this effort, so we are also committed to sourcing 100 percent carbon-free electricity for our global operations by 2030. This transition is well underway with some of our newest data centers, such as our Norwegian data center, being powered by 100% carbon-free electricity.

Policies & Reports

Our policies and standards identify clear procedures and provide a set of guidelines to ensure that our employees, contractors, and partners understand how to act responsibly within our community. We identify approaches to educate and raise awareness of our policies throughout the company's ecosystem.
