ByteDance Commits to Operational Carbon Neutrality by 2030

At ByteDance, our mission to inspire creativity and enrich life drives everything we do. As we build innovative platforms for our global community, we are building programs to manage our real-world impact. We believe a meaningful approach to sustainability is essential for our business, our users, and the planet.

We are dedicated to achieving operational carbon neutrality by 2030. This target, set in 2022, aims to reduce our operational emissions 90% from a 2021 baseline. To address the remaining balance, we are partnering with Climeworks and Rubicon Carbon to invest in high-quality carbon offsets.

Our global data centers power the seamless, creative experiences our users expect. Even as demand grows, our goal remains — sourcing 100% carbon-free electricity for our global operations by 2030. Working closely with our data center partners, we are making meaningful progress. In 2025, we are on track to meet our targets, surpassing 42% carbon-free electricity globally and reaching 98.6% across our UK and EU operations, while continuing to advance decarbonization initiatives across our operations and supply chain.

Beyond our operational footprint, our platforms—including TikTok, Douyin, and Toutiao—empower communities to champion environmental awareness. In 2025, sustainability-focused conversations generated hundreds of billions of views across our ecosystem. Recognizing the scale of our reach, we are taking steps to help ensure the information shared across our platforms remains accurate.
